How to Fix Device Descriptor Request Failed in Windows

Fix device descriptor request failed in Windows

The methods listed below are organized sequentially, from simple reasons to tougher reasons for the mistake. Device Descriptor Request Failed is a common windows error when you attempt to add USB on your PC and laptops. After Windows 10 upgrade, users have reported The last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.

  1. Outdated drivers.
  2. Use corrupt USB controllers.

Fix 1 – By removing power supply

  • If you see this error on your Windows Laptop or PC, first shut down your system and then remove all power supply.
  • Wait for some time and then again start the system.

Fix 2 – By Disabling Fast Start-up

If restarting and removing power supply doesn’t work for you then try this solution. Microsoft has implemented Fast Startup option in Windows 10. Fast startup is using two processes named hibernate and shut down and it allows users to boot very fast. You can disable fast startup option by following steps:

Step1. Open Control Panel > Power Options.

Step 2: In the left side, find Choose what the power buttons do > Click on it.

Step 3: Now click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Step 4: Now uncheck the box of Turn on fast startup.

Step 5: Click on Save button.

Step 6: Restart your system.

Fix 3 – By changing USB Selective Suspend Settings

Step 1: Click on the Battery icon from the taskbar system tray.

Step 2: Choose Power Options.

Step 3: Change Plan Setting.

Step 4: Select Change advanced power settings option.

Step 5: Find USB settings from the list and expand it.

Step 6: Click on USB selective suspend settings to expand it > Click On battery options > Select Disabled.

Step 7: Do the same with plugged in option > Apply > Click Ok.

Fx 4 – By uninstalling all the Unknown USB Drivers

  • Open Run and type “devmgmt.msc” > click ok.
  • Click on Universal Serial Bus controllers > Expand it.
  • Attach your device if not connected. From Universal serial bus controller list, find unknown USB device (Port reset failed) option with a yellow sign.

  • Now right click on it > Uninstall option.

  • After the uninstall, restart system.
  • Done.

Fix 5 – By Updating Generic USB Hub

Step 1: Open the Device Manager or open Run > type devmgmt.msc > ok.

Step 2: Find Universal Serial Bus controllers> right click on Generic USB Hub option > Update Driver Software option.

Step 3: Select Browse my computer > click on Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer option.

Step 4: After that select Generic USB hub > click on Next.

Step 5: Click close.

Fix 6 – By using Troubleshooter

To use Troubleshooter, follow the below steps:

Step 1: Open Control panel and find Troubleshooter from search bar.

Step 2: Go to Hardware and Sound and select configure a device option.

Step 3: Now Fix USB Device Not Recognized. After the troubleshooting process complete, it will list down all the errors. Fix them and reinsert device. Now check if the unknown USB device Windows 7 error is gone or not.
