“FaceTime” is a video calling app, which is similar to Skype in its functions. This app was developed by Apple Inc. ; and is supported on any iOS mobile device with a front-facing camera and any Macintosh computer (that runs on MAC OS X 10.6.6) which has a FaceTime camera. Apple bought the name “FaceTime” from a private company called “FaceTime communications”, who subsequently changed their name to Actiance Inc. in January, 2011. “FaceTime audio”, which is an audio version of FaceTime is supported on an iOS device (with an iOS 7 and newer versions), and any Macintosh computer (that runs on MAC OS X 10.9.2 and newer versions) with a front-facing camera.

Follow these steps to turn on FaceTime on your iOS device:-
Step 1: Go to the settings in yout iOS device.
Step 2: After you scroll down, you will find the “FaceTime” option. Click on it.
Step 3: After you go to “FaceTime”, you will see a slider at the top right corner. Turn the slider on by clicking on it. It will take a few seconds to activate.
Step 4: As soon as it gets activated, you will see a screen. Click on “Use your Apple ID for FaceTime“.
Step 5: A pop-up window will appear, requiring you to put your Apple ID and Password. Now, your Apple ID can be used for FaceTime.
Step 6: After that, your “Apple ID” will be displayed on the screen. You will also see an option- “YOU CAN BE REACHED BY FACETIME AT”. Below that, you can select various other sub-options such as: your phone number, your Apple ID, your Email address, etc. If someone wants to call you on FaceTime, you can be contacted through these available options. Moreover, someone can find you on FaceTime using these options.
Step 7: The “caller ID” option displays your Caller ID into the cell-phone of the person whom your are calling using the FaceTime app. You can select your Email address, or your Apple ID, or your phone number as the Caller ID.
Step 8: You can also take Live photos, while on a FaceTime video call by clicking on the Live photo button.
Step 9: The “Blocked” option enables you to block the selected numbers on FaceTime. Just click on “Add new” and select the numbers you want to block on “FaceTime”.
How to call using the FaceTime app?
Step 1: Go to the FaceTime app, which you can find on your homescreen.
Step 2: Here, you will get two options- “video” and “audio”. You can place a video call, as well as an audio call by using the respective options.
Step 3: Suppose, you want to do a video call. Just click on the “video” option and type the name, email address or number in the address bar to search the person whom you want to video call using FaceTime.
Step 4: The details of the selected person will appear. If you click on “video”, a video call will be placed immediately. Similarly, If you click on “mobile”, an audio call will be placed immediately.
Step 5: While on the call, you will see different options at the bottom of the screen using which you can either turn the camera to the opposite direction, Cut your call or turn your microphone off.

Data consumption in FaceTime:
- If you are using a 3g network, a 10 minute FaceTime call would consume about 30 MBs of your data.
- If you are using a 4g network, a 10 minute FaceTime call would consume about 25 MBs of your data.
Is FaceTime banned anywhere?
FaceTime is banned in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). This means that people living in the states/emirates of this country will not get the FaceTime feature in their iPhones, and they cannot download this app.
Earlier, FaceTime was also banned in Saudi Arabia, but now people living there having the iOS version 11.3 and above in their iPhones can use FaceTime.
FaceTime was also banned in Pakistan, but now people can use it by updating their iPhones to iOS 12.4
FaceTime Audio with call waiting:
While talking to somebody, another phone call or FaceTime audio call comes in, you can do the following things:-
- Cut the current call, and accept the other incoming call.
- Accept the other incoming call, and place the current call on hold.
- Not accept the other incoming call by declining it.
Using your Memoji on FaceTime:
Memoji is new feature introduced by apple to create a customizable animated Emoji for themselves. This feature includes eyewear, skin colour, facial hair, hairstyles and other things. You can create a Memoji to match your personality and mood.
You can create a Memoji in the following devices:-
- On an iPhone X or later,
- iPad pro 11 inch,
- iPad pro 12.9 inch (3rd generation).
Steps to create a Memoji:-
Step 1: Open FaceTime app, and place a video call to someone.
Step 2: When the call starts, click on the effects button
Step 3: Now, Select the Memoji that you want to use,
Step 4: Continue your FaceTime video call with your customized Memoji. Click on the “Cross” button to continue your call without the Memoji.
Using the FaceTime Live Photos:
To save the Live photos during a FaceTime Video call, one need to have an iOS 12.14. The lower iOS versions do not support many features of FaceTime Live Photos. Moreover, FaceTime Live Photos is not supported in iOS 11.

Step 1: Place a FaceTime video call to someone.
Step 2: Press the “shutter” button to take a photo during the call
